Funding to Improve Writing Skills for Disadvantaged Students (England)

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is offering funding to improve the writing skills of students aged 11-16 from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in England.

The funding can be used to support a range of new research projects, from supporting relatively new programmes, to large-scale trials of well-established initiatives conducted in up to a hundred English schools.

Through their Spring 2024 grant-funding round, the EEF will support educational programmes that aim to raise writing attainment.

They offer two funding streams: Development and Pilot; and Efficacy and Effectiveness Trials.

  • For Development projects there is a fixed grant of £22,000 available to contribute towards the costs of engaging in the development process, delivering the programme to settings, and collecting formative feedback.
  • There is no minimum or maximum size of grant for Pilot projects, or Efficacy and Effectiveness Trials.

The deadline for applications is 11am on the 4th April 2024.
