Funding to Encourage Young People to Participate in STEM (Midlands, South West England & South Wales)

Registered charities and other not-for-profit organisations across the Midlands, South West England, and South Wales can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to deliver projects that inspire more children from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

National Grid’s Community Matters Fund, delivered in partnership with Localgiving, is offering a total of £250,000 of funding to boost engagement in these subjects and take learning beyond what is covered by the national curriculum.

Successful projects should:

  • open the eyes of a new generation to a career in STEM (eg, projects that bring the area to life in a lively and engaging way)
  • inspire further confidence and widen the skills of those already interested in STEM (eg, hands-on workshops and interactive experiments)
  • break down barriers with access to tools, time and resources eg, launching after-school coding clubs or giving access to 3D printers)

Unregistered community organisations can apply for up to £2,000.

Schools are not eligible for the fund. Parent Teacher Associations and similar organisations can apply on behalf of their school.

The closing date for applications is the 27th March 2024.
