Grant News
Not for profit organisations working towards a just and democratic society and to redress political and social injustices can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000. The funding is available to causes outside the mainstream that are unlikely to receive funding from other sources.
The charity runs three funding programmes:
- Yorkshire. Trustees give priority to applicants working in the Yorkshire region. The applicant organisation does not need not be based in the region but the project itself must directly benefit the Yorkshire community.
- Southern Africa, particularly Zimbabwe.
- Projects that have applied to the Andrew Wainwright Reform Trust because they meet the AWRT's broad objectives to work for a just and democratic society and to redress political and social injustices, but have not been able to proceed with an application to that Trust because they are eligible for charitable funding.
In the past, the Scurrah Wainright Charity has supported various organisations, such as the Boaz Trust, a Christian organisation serving destitute asylum seekers in Greater Manchester, which received a grant of £2,000, and the Grandparents Association in Leeds, which received a grant of £4,800.
Organisations applying for grants from the Scurrah Wainright Charity do not necessarily have to be registered as charities. However, their work must align with the Charity Commission's definition of charitable purposes and demonstrate public benefit and their income / expenditure can not exceed £250,000 per year.
The application process consists of two stages. In the first instance, applicants are required to complete and submit an preliminary registration form.
The next closing date for applications is the 14th September 2024.
