R&D Funding for Long Haul Zero Emission Heavy Goods Vehicles (UK)

UK businesses and research organisations are invited to apply for a share of up to £140 million for research and development projects to demonstrate battery electric trucks.

The ‘Zero Emission Road Freight Battery Electric Truck Demonstration’, part of the Department for Transport’s Zero Emission Road Freight Demonstration programme, will help kick-start the deployment of long haul zero emission heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) by funding multi-year on-road demonstrations of battery electric HGVs.

The programme will awards grants of between £20 million and £90 million for costs associated with project delivery, vehicle access and recharging infrastructure.

Projects must enable a demonstration of at least 25 trucks split between at least 2 operators and supported by at least 3 recharging locations.

The competition is open to collaborations only until 11am on the 12th October 2022.
