Funding to Improve Access to Green Space in Deprived Urban Areas (England)

The Government has launched a new £9 million fund to create or significantly revamp parks in deprived urban areas in England.

Through the Levelling Up Parks Fund, grants of up to £85,000 will be allocated to 85 pre-selected local authorities in areas with the least access to green space.

Councils will be able to choose the nature and location of the new or improved parks, which could include anything from community gardens to formal greens or town parks.

Areas set to benefit include Birmingham, Liverpool, Carlisle and 16 London boroughs. Of the investment, £2 million will support tree planting in the new parks.

Eligible councils will need to complete an opt-in form by the 5th September 2022.
