£25 Million Competition to Develop the Next Generation of 5G & 6G Network Equipment (UK)

As part of its strategy to diversify the 5G telecoms supply chain, the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is making up to £25 million in funding available to enable universities to work with telecoms firms to research and develop the next generation of 5G and 6G network equipment.

The Future Open Networks Research Challenge will allocate funding for early-stage projects to develop commercially attractive open and interoperable telecoms solutions, such as Open RAN, for use in 5G and future networks. Consortia entering the Challenge must include a university with at least one major Radio Access Network (RAN) vendor, but can also include telecoms operators and enterprise partners.

The deadline for submissions is 12pm on the 3rd October 2022.
