Grants of up to £40,000 Available to Help the UK Fishing Fleet Go Green (UK)

Small boat owners in the coastal fishing fleet can apply for up to £40,000 for trials of hybrid or electric engines, or up to £20,000 for more eco-friendly replacement of diesel or petrol engines.

The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve efficiency and reliability, and help the fishing industry reach net zero, while also addressing rising fuel costs. A total of £2 million is available. This opportunity to modernise the small-scale fishing fleet is part of the £100 million UK Seafood Fund.

To be eligible to apply, the applicant must have a UK-registered commercial fishing vessel with a valid fishing licence and a minimum of 60 days of commercial fishing in the past 2 years. The vessel must also be 11.99 metres or less in length, use passive gear, and belong to a "balanced" fleet segment as determined by the Marine Management Organisation.

The deadline for applications is the 31st October 2023.
