Funding for Primary School Breakfast Clubs (UK)

Grants are available for UK schools interested in opening free breakfast clubs. The Greggs Foundation will provide an initial start-up grant for equipment such as chest freezers to store food items or toys and activities for the club as well a funding towards the running costs.

The average club costs £3,000 to set up and run for a year based on 65 children. Schools should be able to attract adult volunteers to help run the scheme which must be able to show that at least 40% of their pupils qualify for free school meals; that the school serves a disadvantaged community; and the school should demonstrate a commitment to engaging parents or other volunteers.

The breakfast club must be offered for free to ensure all pupils can attend

Although applications can be made at any time, there is currently a waiting list for funding.

All schools in the Breakfast Club network get access to the Foundation's hardship programme. This programme issues over £1million in grants every year and supports children and families with food and clothing vouchers, as well as beds, bedding and home appliances including ovens, fridge freezers and washing machines.
