The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has launched a new £4 million fund to help suicide prevention services meet increased demand from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Suicide Prevention Grant Fund will make £4 million in funding available to enable voluntary community and social enterprise organisations in England that support suicide prevention to set up new projects or expand or sustain current services. The fund will focus on high-risk groups who have struggled most during the pandemic/
These include:
- Middle-aged men
- Children and young people
- People in contact with mental health services
- People who self-harm
- People who are economically vulnerable
- NHS and social care staff
- People in contact with the criminal justice system
- People who were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic
- Ethnic minorities.
Part of the Suicide Prevention Fund will be ring-fenced specifically for micro-organisations and groups (user-led, community-led or peer support groups or organisations who may be unregistered or unconstituted) and who have experience of delivering activity intended to prevent suicide. Micro-organisations and groups are limited to a maximum award of £5,000 from the ring-fenced pot of money.
The closing date for applications is the 16th January 2022.
