Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation - Crowdfunding Campaign (England, Scotland & Wales)

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation funds sustainable community projects throughout England, Scotland and Wales by making grants to support charities and community interest companies. The Foundation, has teamed up with Crowdfunder to make £100,000 in funding available. Organisations can apply for up to 50% of their crowdfunding target, up to a maximum of £5,000, to support projects that match one or more of the following themes: the environment and conservation; health and wellbeing; and the prevention or relief of poverty. Projects could include rewilding projects, community gardens, social inclusion and mental health projects, sports projects, community food banks, money management and budgeting skills, and educational projects for communities to reduce their carbon footprint. No deadline given.

Through the EDF Renewables Corriemoillie Wind Farm Community Fund the foundation provides grants of up to £3,000 to community organisations providing activities that: Enhance quality of life for local residents; Contribute to vibrant, healthy, successful and sustainable communities; Promote community spirit and encourage community activity. Applicants should consider the community priorities that were first identified at an open day consultation in Contin in May 2015 and are reviewed annually. Current priorities are: access; history and heritage and improving outdoor spaces (woods and play park). However, the Fund will also support projects outside these priorities.

Grant requests to support a wide range of costs and activities will be considered, such as equipment costs, running costs for local groups, staff or sessional worker costs, consultations, and maintenance or refurbishment of community facilities.

Foundation Scotland exists to benefit disadvantaged communities by making grants to support relevant charitable or voluntary organisations, which make a difference to their local communities. Through the Carrick Futures fund the foundation provides grants of up to £25,000 to support charitable activities that support the rural regeneration and sustainability of Ballantrae, Colmonell & Lendalfoot, Barr, Barrhill, Pinmore & Pinwherry, Girvan & District and Carrick. Priority will be given to projects that: Improve access to services (in particular public transport); Enable a diverse and sustainable population mix (services for young people and older people, but also activities that help create opportunities for families and working age people to live in the area); Improve equality of opportunity (including tackling poverty and disadvantage).

Foundation Scotland exists to benefit disadvantaged communities by making grants to support relevant charitable or voluntary organisations, which make a difference to their local communities. Through the Ballantrae Community Fund the foundation provides grants of up to £25,000 to support projects located within or directly benefiting Ballantrae, South Ayrshire. Applications must benefit the community, which is geographically defined by the community council boundaries. Awards can support a wide range of costs and activities including equipment costs, running costs for local groups, staff or sessional worker costs, consultations, maintenance or refurbishment of community facilities etc.

Foundation Scotland - An Suidhe Wind Farm Community Fund (Argyll and Bute)

Foundation Scotland exists to benefit disadvantaged communities by making grants to support relevant charitable or voluntary organisations, which make a difference to their local communities.  Through the An Suidhe Wind Farm Community Fund the foundation provides grants of up to £9,000 to groups and organisations working to benefit people in any of the four communities to support charitable activities that: Enhance the quality of life for local residents; Contribute to vibrant, healthy, successful, and sustainable communities; Promote community spirit and encourage community activity.

Trusthouse Charitable Foundation - Small Grant (UK)

The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation is a grant making foundation that give grants to small and medium sized local organisations in the UK with a demonstrable track record of success working to address local issues in communities of extreme urban deprivation and deprived rural districts. Through the small grants programme the foundation provides funding of between £2,000 and £10,000 to charitable organisations with an income of less than £250,000 for projects that focus on Community Support. Examples of the kind of projects that can be funded include: CommunityServices; CommunityCentres; Alternative Education; Training, mentoring, employment and volunteering opportunities; Youth; Counselling; Family Support Services; Substance Misuse.

Robertson Trust - Community Buildings Grant (Scotland)

The Robertson Trust is an independent Scottish grant-making Trust which exists to improve the lives of people and communities experiencing poverty and trauma. The Trust provide funding for organisations and initiatives that address: Financial wellbeing - tackling the financial and material effects of poverty on people and communities; Emotional wellbeing and relationships - ensuring people have emotional wellbeing, and confidence and strength in their relationships with others; Educational and work pathways - equipping people for the future by supporting learning and skills. Through the Community Building Grants programme the trust provides funding of £2,000 to £75,000 towards new buildings, or the upgrade and refurbishment of existing buildings.

Linnean Society of London - Local Nature Grant Scheme (UK)

The Linnean Society of London offers grants for youth-led projects in the UK, aiming to increase access to local natural spaces and encourage a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature. ​Some examples of possible proposals could be: running a school festival about nature; painting community murals showcasing biodiversity in the area; building a community garden; creating a nature walk; hiring a speaker to come and talk about local foraging.

Shetland Charitable Trust - Main Grant Scheme (Shetland)

The purpose of the Shetland Charitable Trust is to use its available funds to benefit and improve the quality of life of all people living in Shetland. Through the Main Grants Scheme the trust provides funding for projects that promote inclusion and reduce inequalities in Shetland through the following activities: Arts and Culture; Sport and Recreation; Heritage and the Environment; Social Care and Welfare. 

Esmee Fairbairn Foundation - Environment Programme (UK)

The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people and communities throughout the UK. The Foundation does this by funding the charitable work of organisations that are building an inclusive, creative and sustainable society.  Through the Environment programme the Foundation wants to support organisations that can move, engage and inform people, and connect with the bigger picture of policymaking, social justice, or quality of life.

The National Lottery Community Fund – Grants for Community-Led Activity (Scotland)

The National Lottery Community Fund distributes money raised by the National Lottery to support local communities. The Grants for Community-Led Activity programme provides funding of between £20,001 and £150,000 to support voluntary and community organisation to improve the places in which they live and the wellbeing of those most in need. Projects should have the following outcomes: Everyone in the community has the opportunity to influence and get involved in community-led activity; People in the community are better connected and work together to improve their well-being.

The Princes’s Countryside Fund – Rural Four Fund (UK)

The Prince's Countryside Fund gives grants to projects that have a positive impact upon rural areas. The Rural Four – Catalyst, collaborate, create and champion grant programme aims to: Reinvigorate community networks by assisting with rebuilding community assets; Improve the health and well-being of 200 socially isolated people through providing access to improved community assets and a network of support; Create a lasting legacy of support and community spirit in the areas where support is provided. The programme will support up to 10 rural communities a year with funding of up to £25,000

Green Infrastructure Fund (Scotland)

The Green Infrastructure Fund is primarily a capital fund aimed at improvements to green infrastructure. The aim is to deliver a minimum of 15 substantial projects across Scotland that improve or create at least 140 hectares of urban green infrastructure by 2023. A principle aim of the Green Infrastructure Fund is to increase participation in greenspace. Community engagement is therefore a key component. Applicants must demonstrate how they have engaged the local community during the development of the application and how they will continue to do so during delivery of the project and beyond.

Energy Saving Trust – eBike Grant (Scotland)

The eBike Grant Fund is a capital fund. A total of £1.14million has been made available, split into two streams, the ‘Community Fund’ and the ‘Public Sector Fund’. Funding from the Community Fund is available to community groups and third sector organisations looking for up to £75,000 towards projects that will provide opportunities to trial ebikes. Public sector organisations and local authorities can apply via the Public Sector Fund, for the purposes of providing fleets of pool bikes, bikeshare/hire schemes, and promoting large scale uptake of ebikes as an alternative to car and van travel. Up to £200,000 is available per application, higher bids will be considered on a case by case basis. It is the aim of the fund to support the uptake of ebikes for functional journeys, therefore this should be the focus for both funds.

Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (Scotland)

The Conservation Area Regeneration scheme (CARS) is a funding programme from Historic Environment Scotland that provides financial help for Conservation Area based regeneration and conservation initiatives. Funding is available to local authorities, national park authorities and community groups over a five year period to support the various elements of setting up a Conservation Area Regeneration scheme including: a repairs programme for priority projects; community engagement through training opportunities in traditional skills and through education programmes; training opportunities for traditional craftspeople; administration costs, including for the appointment of a dedicated project officer and support staff as required.

Persimmon Community Champions (England, Scotland and Wales)

Persimmon Homes Charity Foundation is providing grant funding of up to £1000 to registered charities, clubs, schools and other organisations which have already raised vital funds themselves towards projects to enhance their local community.  The type of projects supported to date have included support for foodbanks; projects within schools; and sports projects; etc.

Enovert Community Trust (UK)

Enovert Community Trust (formerly Cory Environmental Trust in Britain) is an Environmental body which supports community and environmental projects. The Trust awards grants under the terms of the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), providing funding to a broad range of projects that have a positive impact on local communities. The Trust is committed to supporting community and environmental projects across the UK. These include improving community halls, the creation of new play areas and skate parks, and restoring green spaces. Fundraising by applicants is looked upon favourably by the Trustees. Applicants will need to secure a 10% third party contribution which will be payable to Enovert Limited prior to the project commencing.

Outdoor Woodland Learning (OWL) Grant (Scotland)

OWL Scotland Grants specifically support the work of OWL local groups. They provide funding for activities, which achieve the overall objectives of OWL Scotland. Owl Scotland Grants are available to all local OWL groups for administration costs, training courses and networking events. There is also a special grant for development work.

The National Lottery Community Fund - Community Assets Fund (Scotland)

The National Lottery Community Fund is responsible for distributing the National Lottery's good cause money to community groups and charitable projects across the UK. The Community Assets fund for Scotland aims to empower people to create strong, resilient communities by helping them to acquire and/or develop assets in their area. These could be physical assets such as buildings or pieces of land but may also include other types of asset such as renewable energy opportunities. Applications that address disadvantage and inequality will be given priority. Funding of between £10,000 and £1 million is available to voluntary and community organisations for capital funding (such as building or refurbishment costs), revenue funding (such as salaries and running costs) and the cost of acquiring an asset.

National Marine Aquarium (UK)

National Aquarium Ltd is a charity which gives small grants to organisations or individuals that operate projects to further the goals of the National Marine Aquarium. The projects may be science based, research based, conservation focussed, educational or community events; but could equally be based around arts or drama as long as they make a contribution to raising awareness of the marine environment. All projects should fit with the stated aim of the charity, driving Marine Conservation through Engagement.  Grants awarded so far have been between £1,200 and £5,000 and future awards are likely to be of similar amounts.

Tesco - Stronger Starts (England, Scotland & Wales)

Tesco Stronger Starts programme supports thousands of schools and  local community projects across the UK, helping to fight holiday hunger, tackle mental health, support young people, host community events and much more. The scheme has supported over 40,000 community groups with more than £90 million in grants. Tesco Community Grants is open to charities and community organisations to apply for a grant of up to £1,500. Every three months, three local good causes are selected to be in the blue token customer vote in Tesco stores throughout the UK.

Action Earth Grants (Scotland)

Action Earth programme in Scotland empowers people to take action and improve their local environment through volunteering. Supported by Scottish Natural Heritage, any group of volunteers can apply for Action Earth grants of between £50-250 to run environmental activities in Scotland’s green spaces. This could include creating or improving wildflower meadows, ponds, woodlands or community gardens. Local Nature Reserve grants of up to £500 are also available for volunteer activities taking place on Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) such as wildlife recording or protecting and enhancing biodiversity.

Woodland Trust - Free Trees (UK)

The Woodland Trust has free tree packs to give away to schools, community and youth groups. The free tree packs are available for planting on one publicly accessible site. Packs will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. All applicants need to do is find a suitable site and supply the volunteer planters and tree protection. Tree packs for schools and communities offer the perfect opportunity to bring people together to plant trees - encouraging local wildlife, protecting our landscape against tree disease and creating beautiful wooded areas that people can enjoy for years to come.

Heathrow Community Fund (London & South East)

The Heathrow Community Fund is part of an independently run grant-making charity LHR Airport Communities Trust which makes donations to community projects and schools local to the airport. The aim of the Fund is to help them create significant and positive social change.

Artists Project Earth Grants (UK)

Artists Project Earth (APE) funds projects that tackle the effects of climate change.  Applications are welcomed from organisations working to prevent the causes of climate change; defend communities and ecosystems against the impacts of climate change; and support and build resilience for communities affected by natural disasters.

Chestnut Fund Grant (UK)

The Chestnut Fund is an independent charity, making grants available to encourage and enable community groups to carry out conservation activities. Groups must be part of the BTCV Community Network to qualify. The grants fall into two categories: Start-up grants - these are for groups who have no money when they are first set up and are available to groups in their first year of existence. The grant will enable them to begin practical work and will cover administrative expenses, e.g. postage, publicity, hire of meeting rooms, telephone bills and/or the first year of BTCV Community Network Membership plus Insurance fees. The maximum grant will be £150, and Support grants - these are for groups who have no money for tools, equipment and training. The maximum grant will be £350. Preference will be given to resources selected from BTCV sources. This grant is available to all BTCV Community Network groups, regardless of how long they have been members.

Outdoor Woodland Learning (UK)

Grants are available to support projects that increase the understanding and appreciation, particularly among young people, of the environmental, social, and economic potential of trees, woodlands and forests and of the link between the tree and everyday wood products. Eligible project costs include hire of people, for example, supply teachers, advice, training hire or purchase of materials, machinery or services and paying for printing and publicity for projects. There is also a special grant for development work. Only Forest Education Initiative Cluster Groups are eligible to apply.

UnLtd Awards (UK)

UnLtd is the leading provider of support to social entrepreneurs in the UK and supports individuals who have their social ventures firmly rooted in delivering positive social change. It operates a unique model by investing directly in individuals and offering a complete package of resources; from awards of funding to ongoing advice, networking and practical support. UnLtd resource community entrepreneurs to start-up; support those with more established social ventures to scale up; and are committed to developing an eco-system of support to make it easier for those who need help to find it. Community Foundations (UK)

Community Foundations support community and voluntary sector activity through grants to local groups and organisations. There are 48 Community Foundations of different sizes within the UK. Although all Community Foundations operate according to common criteria, they vary in terms of size and nature of grants available. Some Community Foundations will fund both organisations and individuals whilst other foundations will only fund organisations. Each community foundation covers a specific geographic area and will not normally be able to support work outside its area.

The National Lottery Community Fund - Awards for All (Scotland)

Voluntary and community groups, schools, community and town councils and health bodies can apply for grants of between £300 and £20,000 for projects which help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need. Projects must meet at least one of their three aims: bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities; improve the places and spaces that matter to communities; help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage. Funding is available for activities including: putting on events, activities or performances; buying equipment; running training courses; starting a new group; educational toys and games; volunteer's expenses or professional fees; transport costs and refurbishment.

Foundation Scotland Grant Programmes (Scotland)

Foundation Scotland (formerly Scottish Community Foundation) is one of the largest funders of the voluntary sector in Scotland and last year was responsible for distributing over £9million on behalf of their donors. The foundation runs a diverse range of funding programmes for organisations across Scotland who work to benefit a range of interests, causes and communities, and they are particularly interested in supporting organisations where a grant will have a significant impact and enable them to achieve their objectives.
