Historic Building Grants
Oxford City Council

Oxford City Council offers grant aid towards the repair and restoration of historic buildings, monuments and structures that are part of the public domain. Both listed and unlisted heritage assets will be considered for funding.  Grants are offered to ensure that works compatible with the asset and area are carried out in a sensitive manner with sympathetic, natural and appropriate materials.

The kind of work we fund:

  • External works that make a contribution to the street scene
  • Essential structural repair
  • Features of special interest such as main chimney-stacks, porches, stone detailing and carving
  • Roof coverings (but not Welsh slate)
  • Original window and door types
  • External walls to buildings, significant front garden walls and railings
  • Grants may be awarded towards the upkeep of gardens, where carried out in conjunction with work to buildings and structures.

Applications from churches and private individuals are normally eligible.

Please see the Oxford City Council website for details

Usually grants do not exceed 25% or £1,500, whichever is the greater sum, of the total costs involved. The award of an historic buildings grant is not automatic and is dependent on the nature of the proposal, available funds, and the discretion of the Council.
