Housing Grants and Loans
Chiltern District Council
Chiltern District Council provides financial assistance for house repairs and adaptations.

All grants are subject to strict eligibility conditions which are summarised below and most grants are now repayable to the Council, when the property is sold. All grants are ‘means tested' to ensure those low incomes have priority.
Grants are also subject to cash availability and a waiting list may have to be created from time to time

Grants are available under the following categories

Home Fitness Grant - Grants of up to £20,000 are available for the renovation of houses in the worst state of repair. To qualify, the house must be "unfit", that is, not suitable to occupy in its present state, or be very cold and difficult to heat.

Disabled Facilities Grant - Grants of up to £25,000 are available for the adaptation of houses to allow a disabled person to continue living there.

Minor Works Grant - The Minor Works Grant is a smaller grant which is available for insulation works minor essential repairs to houses. The overall grant is limited to £5,000 per application per year and no more than £10,000 per property in any three year period.

Mobile Home Grant - The Mobile Home Grant is available for works of insulation and heating improvements to permanent residential caravans and mobile homes. The overall grant is limited to £5,000 per application.

Urgent Works Grant - The Urgent Works Grant is a smaller grant which is available for emergency repairs and safety/security works to houses. The overall grant is limited to £500 per application and no more than one application per year.

Landlord's Grant - The Landlord's Grant is available to private and RSL landlords for the following works:

• Works to make an unfit dwelling fit for habitation

• Works to improve energy efficiency of a dwelling

• Works of repair, improvement or conversion to bring an empty property back into use

• Works to provide fire precautions in Houses in Multiple Occupation

The maximum grant is £10,000 and the landlord will be expected to make a contribution towards the cost based on the expected rental increase resulting from the works.
