Since 2005 the British Hen Welfare Trust has been rescuing hens from slaughter and rehoming them as pets throughout the UK. Through the Small Grants programme the Trust provides funding of up to £2000 to vet nurses and students for research into the behaviour and welfare of chickens which is vital for improving pet hen health.
