Grant News
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced a new £92 million four-year capital fund to support the repair and maintenance of listed places of worship in England.
The Places of Worship Renewal Fund will help churches, chapels, mosques, temples and other faith buildings carry out essential works such as structural repairs and restoration.
Grants ranging from £10,000 to £1 million will be awarded for capital works that keep buildings safe, open and in public use, including:
- urgent fabric repairs (roofs, masonry, timber, drainage)
- essential improvements (electrical upgrades, heating, toilets, step‑free access)
- professional fees and surveys related to eligible capital works
- limited additional works that support future long-term sustainability (such as loft hatches, improved rainwater goods)
- proportionate interventions that support sustainable community use
Any listed place of worship can apply, of any faith or denomination, provided it is an active place of worship.
Priority will be given to projects in areas with the greatest need for investment, and those that bring the most community benefit.
£23 million will be available each year for the next four years. Three funding streams are available:
- £10,000 to £50,000 (small grants)
- £50,001 to £350,000 (medium grants)
- £350,001 to £1,000,000 (large grants)
Administered by Historic England, the fund replaces the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme.
Expressions of interest open in September 2026.
