£250,000 Fund Opens to Improve Local Green Spaces (Midland, South West and South Wales)

National Grid Electricity Distribution has launched its Community Matters Fund – Green Spaces 2026, with £250,000 available to help community organisations create and improve accessible green spaces for people who need them most.

The fund is open to registered charities, charitable companies limited by guarantee, and unregistered constituted community groups based in the Midlands, Southwest England, or South Wales. Registered charities and CICs can apply for grants of up to £5,000, while unregistered groups can apply for up to £2,000.

Eligible projects include:

  • Developing or redeveloping green spaces — such as raised flowerbeds, living walls, and pocket parks
  • Improving accessibility — including pathways, ramps, and outdoor seating
  • Biodiversity initiatives — such as wildflower planting, ponds, trees, hedges, bee banks, and bird or bat boxes

Projects that benefit underserved or vulnerable communities facing barriers to accessing green spaces are particularly encouraged.

Applications are made through Localgiving. Existing members can apply via the "Find Grants" section of their account dashboard. New organisations will need to register on the Localgiving platform before applying.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 26 June 2026. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of July, with funds distributed from August 2026.
