£5,000 Grants Available to Boost Walking and Cycling (London)

Community groups across Greater London can now apply for grants of up to £10,000 to run walking and cycling projects through the Walking and Cycling Grants London (WCGL) programme. Funded by Transport for London (TfL) and the London Marathon Foundation, and delivered by Groundwork London, the scheme supports inclusive, community-led initiatives that promote active travel.

The WCGL programme supports projects that encourage more people to walk and cycle regularly, safely, and with confidence.

Eligible applicants include

  • constituted community organisations,
  • charities,
  • CICs,
  • and other not-for-profit groups.

The fund particularly welcomes applications from those working with under-represented communities facing barriers such as limited income, poor health, disability, lack of skills, cultural factors, or restricted access to equipment or information.

A second strand, the Community Ideas Grants (CIG), is also open for applications. Targeted at grassroots and first-time applicants, CIG offers up to £5,000 for projects delivered over 12 months. To qualify, organisations must have received less than £10,000 in grant funding to date or have an annual income under £50,000.

CIG applicants must choose from a menu of tried-and-tested project templates and receive additional support throughout the application and delivery process. This streamlined approach is designed to help newer or smaller groups get involved in active travel for the first time.

The deadline for both schemes is 10am on 28 September 2026.
