Funding for Projects that Teach Children about the Countryside (England and Wales)
GrantsCharities, not-for-profit organisations, and schools can apply for grants of up to £5,000 from the CLA Charitable Trust to support projects that help children and young people connect with nature and the countryside.

Funding is aimed at initiatives that improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of people who are disabled or disadvantaged, including those who are financially, physically, or mentally disadvantaged, or who live in areas of deprivation. can be used to support projects, capital works, and running costs.

Examples of eligible activities include:

  • Farms offering day or residential experiences for disabled or disadvantaged young people.

  • Growing projects, such as horticultural therapy and community gardening initiatives.

  • Forest school-style activities that promote outdoor learning and wellbeing.

  • Conservation and environmental projects that teach people about nature and how to care for it.

Applications can be submitted at any time.

Previous projects supported include:

  • John Fielding School PTA received a £3,000 grant to establish a horticulture area at a new school site.
  • Wye Community Farm received a £3,000 grant towards a farm club for local schools and special needs settings.
  • Project Food Devon received a grant of £2,000 to provide support sessions with a local farm for people struggling with mental health.
