Funding to Support Creative Collaborations Between the UK and Germany (UK)

The British Council has opened applications to NXT, a new funding programme supporting ambitious artistic collaborations between organisations in the UK and Germany. Grants of between £15,000 and £20,000 are available per partnership, with at least 12 awards expected.

The programme will support projects exploring challenges affecting young people aged 18 to 30, particularly their relationship with the digital world and the impact of local and global instability. Eligible activity can include dance, music, film, theatre, performance, poetry, fashion, immersive experiences, games, installations and cross-media work.

Examples of the types of work that could be funded include:

  • an immersive theatre or performance project exploring social media, AI, online identity or digital isolation;
  • a UK-Germany music or film collaboration examining how young people respond to political, economic or environmental uncertainty;
  • an interactive installation exploring anxiety, resilience, community or care among young adults;
  • a digital storytelling project allowing young people in both countries to share experiences of life online;
  • a game or play-based project exploring digital culture, misinformation or online communities;

Key highlights:

  • UK-Germany partnerships only
  • £15,000 to £20,000 per partnership
  • No match funding required
  • Organisations must be registered in either the UK or Germany
  • Individual artists, universities and organisations outside the two countries cannot apply
  • Projects can be physical, digital or hybrid.

Key points: Funded development activity must take place between 1 April 2027 and 31 March 2028. Applications close at 11.59pm CET on 10 January 2027, with decisions due on 15 February 2027.

The British Council offer two (identical) online information sessions to ask questions about the programme.
