Funding to Help Utilise Vacant Commercial Properties (Bristol)

As part of its City Centre and High Streets Renewal Programme, Bristol City Council has launched the Vacant Commercial Property Grant Scheme to help reduce the number of empty commercial properties across the city centre and 46 designated local high streets.

Grants of £2,500 to £10,000 are available to:

  • Small businesses and sole traders

  • Charities and Community Interest Companies (CICs)

  • Arts, creative, and cultural groups

  • Community organisations

Eligible applicants must be looking to lease or rent a currently vacant commercial property within the city centre or on one of the designated high streets. The funding can be used for capital expenditure, including building works, decorating, signage, or new equipment needed to start trading from the premises. Both long-term and temporary uses are eligible, and the amount awarded depends on the length of the lease or rental agreement. All applicants must provide 20% match funding.

The scheme’s objectives are to:

  • Reduce commercial vacancy rates

  • Diversify and enhance the commercial offer in key areas

  • Increase footfall and create new jobs

  • Make Bristol a better place to live and work

Applications must be received by 11:59pm on Friday, 14 November 2025, or earlier if all funding is allocated. Successful applicants must begin trading from the funded property by Friday, 30 January 2026.
