Funding for Libraries & Archives with Nationally Significant Collections (UK)

Grants of between £15,000 and £100,000 are available to support libraries and archives caring for nationally significant collections.

The Wolfson Foundation funds new builds, refurbishments, or equipment projects that improve access to nationally significant collections.

Projects should have at least one of the following aims:

  • enhanced care of collections of national significance
  • better public engagement with and understanding of collections
  • increased numbers of visitors to libraries and archives
  • improved future sustainability of the organisation
  • conservation of architectural heritage

Grants are typically awarded for collection storage facilities and research, education or interpretation spaces.

Organisations should be operated by a registered charity or local authority.

Match funding is required for projects costing more than £50,000.

There is a 2-stage application process. The closing date for Stage 1 applications is the 1st July 2025. Organisations successful at this stage will have until the 1st September 2025 to submit their full application.
