Government Announces £60 Million Fund to Regenerate Brownfield Sites (England)

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities announced that disused and underutilised brownfield sites in England will be revitalised to provide thousands of new homes and jobs. Local councils in England can apply for a portion of £60 million from the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, which aims to revitalise neglected urban areas, support regeneration projects, and boost local economies.

This initiative is part of the government's plan to prioritise brownfield land for housing development, while preserving green spaces and turning underused sites into desirable places to live and work.

Out of the £180 million fund, £35 million has already been allocated and the remaining funding will be made available to councils over the next two years. The full brownfield fund aims to provide 17,600 new homes and 56,000 skilled jobs over the next four years.

The closing date for applications is the 23:59 on the 31st March 2023. Decision on final applications and announcement of funding awards Summer 2023.
