Grant News
The UK government has launched the Tackling Food Surplus at the Farm Gate scheme, allocating £15 million to address the issue of edible food waste on farms. This initiative offers grants starting from £20,000 to food redistribution charities aiming to rescue surplus produce and deliver it to communities in need. The funding can be used for purchasing packaging and labelling equipment, vehicles for transporting goods from farms, and storage solutions like fridges or freezers to prolong food freshness.
The scheme is open to food redistribution charities and encourages interested groups to apply. Applicants are invited to submit proposals detailing their plans to collaborate with farmers to access surplus food and enhance their capacity for redistribution. The application window is currently open and will close at 11:55 am on the 13th March 2025.
This fund aims to strengthen the connection between farms and charitable organisations, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most. By supporting charities in overcoming logistical challenges, the government seeks to reduce food waste and combat hunger within communities.
