The Welsh Government has announced that the Supporting Service Children in Education in Wales Fund for 2026/27 is open to applications from schools and local authorities across Wales. The fund is administered by SSCE Cymru, which works with schools and councils to help them understand and respond to the needs of Service children.

The programme will support projects and interventions delivered during the 2026/27 academic year for children who meet the Welsh Government definition of a Service child. Funding is intended to help address the impact of the Armed Forces lifestyle, including education, wellbeing and engagement needs.

The three grants available are:

• Small Project Grant: Grants of up to £500, or up to £1,000 for local authority maintained schools with valid Armed Forces Friendly Schools Cymru status. This funding supports school or local authority projects that meet the needs of Service children.
• Month of the Military Child Grant: Grants of up to £500 for activities taking place in April. This funding supports schools and local authorities to recognise and celebrate Service children during Month of the Military Child.
• Intervention Grant: Grants of up to £500 for short-term, targeted support for an individual Service child or a small group of Service children.

Small Project Grant applications close on 9 October 2026 and 11 December 2026. Month of the Military Child Grant applications close on 12 February 2027. Intervention Grant applications can be submitted throughout the academic year, following prior discussion with SSCE Cymru.
