The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has launched the Public Engagement Spark Awards 2025A. The awards aim to promote public engagement with STFC-supported science, technology, and facilities. The initiative seeks to deliver high-quality public engagement activities, introduce STFC science and technology to new audiences, and highlight the achievements and value of STFC's contributions to the UK.
The STFC remit includes:
- astronomy, solar and planetary science
- particle physics
- particle astrophysics
- nuclear physics
- accelerator science
- computational science
- quantum technologies
Eligible applicants, including UK-based organisations such as schools, museums, science communicators, community interest companies, and community groups, can apply for grants ranging from £5,000 to £20,000. The total funding available for this round is £80,000. Projects should focus on engaging the public with STFC-related science and technology through various activities and initiatives.
Eligible public engagement activities could include (this list is not exhaustive):
- Educational Workshops and Lectures: Organising sessions that introduce STFC-related scientific concepts to students, educators, and the general public.
- Exhibitions and Interactive Displays: Developing museum exhibits or science center installations that showcase STFC's research and technological advancements.
- Community Outreach Programmes: Engaging with local communities through science festivals, public talks, and hands-on activities to make science accessible to a broader audience.
- Digital and Online Initiatives: Creating virtual events, webinars, or online resources that highlight STFC's contributions to science and technology.
- Citizen Science Projects: Involving the public in scientific research activities, allowing them to contribute to real-world scientific investigations.
The closing date for applications is 4pm on the 24th April 2025.
