Funding Available to Improve Public Engagement with the Arts (Wales)

Arts Council of Wales is offering grants through its Create funding programme, supported by The National Lottery. The scheme aims to support time-limited arts projects that improve public engagement and align with strategic priorities such as diversity, Welsh language promotion, climate justice, and sector development.

There are two strands:

  • Small Create and Large Create. Small Create offers grants between £500 and £10,000. It is open to both individuals and organisations for early-stage or smaller projects. Applications are assessed more quickly than the large strand. The final deadline for Small Create is Friday 1 August 2025.
  • Large Create awards grants between £10,001 and £50,000, with potential exceptions of up to £100,000 for experienced organisations and festivals (with prior discussion). The final deadlines for Large Create is 20 August 2025 (1pm cut-off). All projects must begin by 1 August 2026.

Projects must be primarily based in Wales and eligible projects include the development of new work across artforms such as dance, opera, theatre, and music; research and concept testing phases; live performance and touring; outdoor and festival-based arts programming; and cross-disciplinary or mixed-media artistic exploration. The fund also supports community engagement projects involving co-creation with local participants, and initiatives that address cultural identity, inclusion, and representation.

A minimum of 10% of project costs must be funded from other sources.

Applicants must register on the Arts Council's online portal and submit a Create application form, including a detailed proposal, timeline, budget, and supporting documents. Decisions may take six to nine weeks depending on grant size.
