Grant News
Community sports clubs across Wales are being offered the chance to upgrade and modernise their facilities with help from a new grant partnership between Sport Wales and Crowdfunder.
Through the A Place for Sport – Crowdfunder scheme, not-for-profit clubs and groups can apply for matched funding to support projects such as refurbishing clubhouses, improving changing rooms, or making spaces more accessible. Sport Wales will contribute up to 60% of a club’s fundraising target, with a maximum of £15,000 available.
To qualify, applicants must raise at least 25% of their total themselves and secure support from a set number of individual donors. The scheme is designed to ensure projects have strong local backing while also tackling inequality, with priority given to under-represented groups and communities in areas of high deprivation.
The funding does not cover coaching courses or sports equipment, which fall under Sport Wales’s Be Active Wales Fund, but instead focuses on “off-field” improvements that make a lasting difference to clubs and their communities.
Some examples include:
- Fixing or upgrading changing rooms, toilets, or showers
- Renovating your clubhouse
- Improving kitchen or bar areas
- Adding bike racks or storage
- Making your space more accessible (with ramps or lifts)
- Fixing fences, or adding stands and seating
- Buying scoreboards or video equipment
- Pitch maintenance tools
Clubs begin by submitting an Expression of Interest form. If accepted, they set up a Crowdfunder page to campaign for support and unlock the matched funding. There is no application deadline and Sport Wales aims to respond to applications within two working days.
