£24.6 million Fund to Support Clean Energy & Decarbonisation Projects (North Wales)

Ambition North Wales is inviting applications to the £24.6 million North Wales Clean Energy Fund which supports clean energy and decarbonisation projects across the region.

The fund will run for an initial five-year period and includes two sub-funds:

  • Voluntary Sector Sub-Fund - worth £5 million over 5 years and is for capital spend. Funding will be 50% grant (£25,000, to £500,000), 25% interest free loan (up to £250,000), with the remaining 25% required as match funding. Loans are repayable by Dec 2035. The fund is delivered by WCVA in partnership with Community Energy Wales
  • Private Sector Sub-Fund - worth £15 million over 5 years and is for capital spend. Loans can range from £25,000 up to £2million, with interest rates ranging from 5% to 14% based on risk, with a 1% arrangement fee. There is a flexible payment term of up to 60 months. Delivered by Umi.

Projects must be based in Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham, or Ynys Môn.

The fund will support a variety of clean energy solutions, including:

  • renewable energy generation and infrastructure
  • smart energy solutions including storage
  • energy efficiency, decarbonisation and retrofit
  • manufacturing and supply chain opportunities

It is expected to deliver £100 million of investment in the region, create 150 jobs, and cut up to 125,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds have been allocated.
