£24.6 million North Wales Clean Energy Fund Launched (Wales)

Ambition North Wales has announced the launch of the North Wales Clean Energy Fund, a £24.6 million investment programme designed to accelerate clean energy and decarbonisation projects across the region.

Delivered as part of the North Wales Growth Deal, the fund aims to support renewable energy generation, energy efficiency improvements, and smart energy systems, while reducing carbon emissions, lowering energy costs, and strengthening the regional economy. The programme is delivered in partnership with UMi for private sector applicants and WCVA for voluntary and community organisations.

The Clean Energy Fund is open to businesses, voluntary organisations, charities, and community-led projects operating in North Wales, including Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham and Ynys Môn. Supported projects may include solar, wind and tidal energy, energy storage, building retrofits, and low-carbon supply chain development.

Funding is structured across three strands. A £5 million voluntary sector fund offers a blend of grants, interest-free loans and match funding for capital projects. A £15 million private sector fund provides loans from £25,000 to £2 million on commercial terms. A £4.6 million reserve fund is retained to support strategically important projects that fall outside standard criteria.

The fund is expected to unlock up to £100 million of additional investment, support job creation, and deliver significant long-term carbon reductions across North Wales.

Both the Voluntary Sector and the Private Sector funds are currently open for applications.
