Funding for Projects that Reduce Isolation and Strengthen Communities (Wales)

Charities, CICs and community groups in Wales are being invited to apply for grants from the Ashley Family Foundation to support projects that promote the arts, crafts, education, and community development.

The foundation, inspired by the legacy of Laura and Bernard Ashley, focuses its funding on initiatives that strengthen rural communities and improve the lives of people who are isolated or disadvantaged. Its main focus is Wales, particularly mid-Wales.

The Foundation is particularly interested in supporting projects that:

  • involve the arts (painting, illustration, design, textiles, music, dance, theatre, film, photography)
  • support crafts, especially heritage skills at risk of being lost and contemporary craft skills
  • promote education in the arts, crafts, sustainability, and the environment (for people from Wales studying in either Wales or England)
  • help rural communities, especially by alleviating isolation or creating opportunities in areas with few existing resources
  • strengthen community connections, especially for those who are isolated or socially disadvantaged
  • make a sustainability or environmental impact in local communities
  • are run by small charities, which are committed to improving the lives of local people

Priority is given to small charities with an annual income of under £2 million. Typical grants are up to £10,000 and must represent at least 10% of the total project cost. Funding is available for running costs rather than capital expenses.  Multi-year support may be considered in some cases.

Unregistered groups may apply through a registered partner.

The next deadline is 31 July 2026.
