Funding to Create New Volunteering Opportunities (Wales)

The Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) has announced that the Volunteering Wales Main Grant Scheme is open for applications. The Welsh Government-funded programme aims to increase volunteer participation, remove barriers and create high-quality volunteering opportunities across Wales. WCVA is the national membership body for voluntary organisations in Wales.

Not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £30,000 for projects lasting up to one year. Projects must take place in Wales, recruit new volunteers and demonstrate benefits to communities. Funding is mainly for revenue costs, although smaller capital items such as IT equipment and consumables can be included.

Examples of the type of projects that could be supported include:

  • developing new volunteer roles or expanding volunteering into new communities;
  • recruiting people who face barriers to volunteering, including under-represented groups;
  • providing volunteer induction, training, supervision and development;
  • improving volunteer management systems, policies and procedures;
  • making volunteering more accessible and inclusive;
  • projects that strengthen how volunteering is embedded within an organisation;
  • collaborative projects that create sustainable volunteering opportunities;
  • activities that contribute to at least three of Wales’ Well-being of Future Generations goals.

Key points:
• Applicants must be independent not-for-profit organisations.
• Projects must operate in Wales.
• Applicants must have an appropriate volunteering and safeguarding policy.
• Only one application is permitted per organisation.
• Priority may be given to organisations led by, or benefiting, people with protected characteristics.

The deadline is 5pm on 30 November 2026. Decisions are expected in February 2027.
