Grant News
The Army Benevolent Fund has announced that UK charities and Community Interest Companies can apply for funding to support frontline services for the Army community, including serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
The Army Benevolent Fund is the Army’s national charity. It provides lifelong support to serving and former soldiers and their families when they face hardship or need extra help.
To apply, organisations must:
- Be financially sustainable
- Have at least one year of audited accounts
- Demonstrate good governance
- Provide a service that meets a clear, evidenced need not already covered by other services
Funding is usually awarded for one year. Grants can support both core running costs and project costs. However, funding is unlikely to cover full project costs, specific staff posts, research, or expeditions.
Grant amounts range from a few hundred pounds to several hundred thousand pounds. First-time grants are typically under £15,000.
Examples of previously funded projects include:
- £10,000 for The Open University’s Disabled Veterans’ Scholarships Fund
- £20,000 for Scotty’s Little Soldiers to support bereaved Army children
- £43,000 for Family Activity Breaks for bereaved military families
- £245,000 for SSAFA’s casework service and Stepping Stone Home
Applications are reviewed at committee meetings. The next closing date for applications is 28 April 2026.
New applicants are encouraged to contact the funder before submitting an application.
