The National Archives offers Research and Innovation Grants of up to £10,000 to support research, innovation and transformative projects in the archive sector. The programme focuses on digital transformation, environmental sustainability and inclusive practice.
The National Archives is the official archive of the UK Government and provides leadership, guidance and funding support for the archives sector in England and Wales.
Archivists and heritage professionals working with archival collections in England or Wales can apply. Eligible applicants include public sector bodies, not-for-profit organisations, registered charities and for-profit organisations, including business archives. Private individuals cannot apply.
Funding may support:
- Digital transformation: testing new technologies, tools, devices or products for managing, preserving, accessing or sharing archive collections.
- Environmental sustainability: projects that help archives reduce environmental impact or adapt to climate change.
- Inclusive practice: work that improves diversity, equity and inclusion in collections, audiences, users or archival practice.
Funding can also support seed funding, pilot projects, commissioned research, research trips, dissemination, publishing, events and publication fees. The programme uses a single-stage online application process
The programme uses a single-stage online application process. Applications are assessed on innovation, impact, delivery and management, knowledge sharing and need.
