The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced that organisations responsible for public memorials in the UK can apply for grants through the Memorial Grant Scheme to cover VAT costs on the construction, repair, and maintenance of public memorials. In some circumstances overseas memorials may also be eligible.

Organisations such as registered charities, religious groups, local authorities, and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for up to 100% of the VAT incurred for work on or after the 16th March 2005.

Funding can only be provided for works that have already taken place. Organisations cannot apply for funding in advance of future works. If the work is ongoing, applicants can only apply for part funding for parts of the work which have been completed.

The deadline for applications to be reviewed in this round of funding is 23:55 on the 30th September 2024.
