Funding to Promote the Benefits of World Trade (UK)

UK-registered charities and other not-for-profit organisations are invited to apply for funding to support projects that promote the benefits of world trade.

The Worshipful Company of World Traders offers this funding through its charitable trust, which seeks to support innovative educational initiatives aligned with its objectives.

The objectives of the Trust are:

  • To promote world trade in all its aspects
  • To relieve poverty affecting those engaged in, or impacted by, world trade, as well as their dependants
  • To further education and training that advance world trade

Examples from organisations it has supported include:

  • Financial literacy through drama: Create Arts ran a project helping primary school children in deprived areas learn about money by developing their own play with drama teachers.
  • Enterprise and leadership skills: The Trust contributed to Skills Builder’s development of learning materials for secondary school pupils. These support the skills young people need for work and adult life.
  • Young people running a business: Young Enterprise is listed among supported charities. Its company programme enables students to develop a product, manage finances and sell to the public, with guidance from a volunteer business adviser.
  • Careers support for people with sight loss: Supported charity Blind in Business provides careers and technology training for blind schoolchildren, alongside employment support for blind adults.
  • Creative activities for disadvantaged young people: The Trust lists XLP’s Arts Showcase, which uses music, dance, drama and other performing arts to help young people on deprived London estates express themselves and develop their potential.

Grants typically range from £1,000 to £5,000, although smaller amounts may be awarded. For projects not directly related to world trade, a connection to the City of London or inner London is preferred.

Grant requests should not exceed 50% of the total project’s annual funding needs.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be considered at the next Trustee meeting f

The Charities Committee will then consider proposals at its next scheduled meeting, which happens four times a year in March, June, September and December.
