The Ministry of Defence is accepting applications to the LGBT Financial Recognition Scheme from veterans affected by the Armed Forces LGBT Ban between 27 July 1967 and 11 January 2000. The scheme recognises the discrimination and harm experienced under the Ban.

Two payments are available. Veterans dismissed or discharged because of the Ban can receive £50,000. Those affected through harassment, investigations, disciplinary action, imprisonment or other mistreatment can apply for an Impact Payment of £1,000 to £20,000. The scheme is open regardless of an applicant’s actual sexual orientation or gender identity.

Key points:

• Applicants must have served during the Ban and been affected by it.
• Financial applications are for living veterans or personnel.
• Terminally ill applicants are prioritised.
• Applications can be made online through Defence Gateway or by paper form.

The deadline for applications is 11.59pm on 12 December 2026.
