Wales and Africa Grant Scheme Now Open for Applications (Wales)

The Welsh Government has announced that its Wales and Africa Grant Scheme, is accepting applications for its 2025 funding round. This initiative supports community groups and organisations in Wales undertaking projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and foster benefits for both Wales and Sub-Saharan Africa. Grants ranging from £5,000 to £25,000 are available for 12-month projects.

The lead applicant must be based within Wales.

The scheme aims to empower communities in Sub-Saharan Africa by addressing critical global challenges. It supports projects under four thematic areas:

  • Health,
  • Lifelong Learning,
  • Climate Change
  • Environment, and Sustainable Livelihoods.

Examples include supporting healthcare professionals in Africa through training, linking Welsh and African communities to enhance global citizenship education, assisting African farmers in adapting to climate change, and promoting income-generating cooperatives.

Eligible applicants are incorporated organisations based in Wales, such as registered charities, community interest companies, and local authorities. Applicants must demonstrate a clear benefit to Wales and alignment with at least one of the four thematic areas.
