North Wales Clean Energy Fund (North Wales)

Ambition North Wales has launched the North Wales Clean Energy Fund, a £24.6 million initiative to bolster clean energy and decarbonisation projects across the region. Aimed at fostering sustainability, the fund is expected to drive £100 million in regional investment, create 150 new jobs, and cut carbon emissions by up to 125,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The fund comprises two sub-funds targeting different sectors.

  • The Private Sector Sub-Fund supports businesses in developing clean energy solutions,
  • The Voluntary Sector Sub-Fund aids charities and community projects in reducing emissions.

Eligible applicants include organisations in Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham, and Ynys Môn, covering businesses, voluntary groups, and other entities committed to energy efficiency.

Projects supported by the fund range from renewable energy generation and smart energy storage to energy efficiency retrofitting and green economy supply chain opportunities. For voluntary sector applicants, funding includes a 50% grant (between £25,000 and £500,000), a 25% interest-free loan (up to £250,000), and a requirement for 25% match funding.

The initiative offers significant benefits, including financial backing for clean energy projects, reduced operational costs through improved efficiency, and access to the expanding green economy. It also promotes local ownership of clean energy assets, strengthening community resilience.

This is a five-year programme and applications are accepted at any time.
