Funding to Support Armed Services Children in Schools (Wales)

The Armed Forces Education Trust provides support to children and young adults from families of Service personnel.

The Collective Grants programme awards grants of up to £50,000 to help schools and education providers provide additional support for children experiencing challenges in their education as a result of their parent’s service.

This could be relating to:

  • mobility, deployment and separation
  • gaps in learning
  • supporting mobile pupils with additional learning needs (ALN)

Previous grants have included funding for

  • Short term support for children with Additional Needs where this cannot be met via normal funding
  • Additional catch-up support needed due to school moves
  • Play therapy for a group of Service children
  • Emotional support training/ provision for schools
  • Access to higher education course
  • Projects to support Service children across a Local Authority
  • Transition support

The funding priorities are:

  • help fund the education of the children of service men and women who have been disadvantaged by the service of their parent(s)
  • ensure children do not miss out because of their parents’ service, regardless of age, ability or their parents’ rank or past or current service
  • provide schools with funding for additional resources to support the education of children whose parents serve or have served in the Armed Forces

Schools, local authorities, and university outreach teams can apply, provided the project benefits one or more schools with Service children.

Expressions of interest must be submitted by 17 April 2026, with full applications due by 8 May 2026.

Families can apply for Individual grants at any time during the year.
