Funding for Building Maintenance & Improvements for Education Establishments (England)

The latest round of the UK Government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) is now open for applications from academies, multi-academy trusts, sixth-form colleges, and voluntary aided schools across England.

The Fund provides capital funding of up to £4 million per project to help keep school and college buildings safe and in good working order. Eligible projects include those addressing health and safety issues, building compliance, and poor building conditions.

The minimum funding threshold is £20,000 for primary and special schools, and £50,000 for secondary schools, all-through schools, and sixth-form colleges. A small number of expansion projects that support good school and college places will also be considered.

Priority will be given to projects demonstrating a high urgency of need, significant impact on the school, or closure of key facilities.

Academies and sixth-form colleges may also apply for a loan to cover all or part of their project costs as a sign of commitment to the scheme.

The deadline for new applicants to register for a CIF portal account is 12 noon on 9 December 2025. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 16 December 2025.
