The John Ellerman Foundation has launched a new funding strategy for 2025 to 2030. As part of this strategy, funding is available to UK-registered charities whose work promotes the well-being of people, society, or the natural world.

The Foundation no longer uses fixed funding categories, aiming instead to support work with national relevance across a wide range of sectors and will support charitable work that responds to one or more of the following:

• Tackling the triple planetary crisis by mitigating and adapting to climate impacts, reducing pollution and protecting and restoring nature.
• Building greater trust and connection, reducing polarisation within society and increasing the levels of participation and influence in the political process (which is sometimes referred to as political equality).
• Promoting the development and adoption of economic models and systems that support people and the planet and reduce wealth inequalities.
• Advancing equity and justice for marginalised communities impacted by the issues above

Eligible applicants are charities with an annual income between £100,000 and £10 million. The only exception to this is for environmental organisations acting as intermediaries for work happening in the UK Overseas Territories.

The Foundation offers multi-year funding for core costs and accepts applications for a maximum of £180,000 over up to five years.

Applications are open on a rolling basis with no fixed deadlines. The process includes a short Stage One proposal submitted through the Foundation’s website. If shortlisted, applicants proceed to a more detailed Stage Two. Final decisions are made at regular board meetings.
