Scottish Connections Fund Opens for Applications (Scotland & International)

The Scottish Connections Fund has made £50,000 available for projects strengthening Scotland’s international diaspora. Individuals and organisations with a Scottish connection through heritage, education, business, culture, or other affinities can apply for grants ranging from £2,000 to £5,000. This funding aims to support at least ten new innovative projects to foster connections among Scotland’s diaspora and promote Scottish heritage globally.

This grant was introduced as part of the Scottish Connections Framework launched in April 2023. The initiative aims to enhance engagement with Scotland’s global diaspora to benefit Scotland economically and culturally, improve international connections, and enhance Scotland’s reputation. The fund supports projects that promote Scottish culture and heritage, encourage visits, and foster business opportunities.

Eligible projects include those that help document and explore Scottish connections, such as genealogical research and cultural activities. For example, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society used a previous grant to research and compile resources on the Scottish ancestry of enslaved individuals in North America. The fund empowers organisations and individuals to explore and celebrate their Scottish heritage.

Applications for the Scottish Connections Fund must be submitted by 5 pm on the 4th  September 2024. Projects need to be completed by the end of March 2025.
