Grant News
National Grid Electricity Distribution, in collaboration with Localgiving, has launched the Community Matters Fund (Future Skills 2025) to enhance employability among individuals facing significant barriers to employment. With a total fund of £250,000, this initiative aims to support programmes that develop practical skills and improve job prospects for underrepresented groups, including youth aged 16-25 not in full-time education, individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds, those with health conditions or disabilities, armed forces veterans, ex-offenders, and individuals returning to work after a long-term absence.
Eligible organisations such as registered charities and not for profit organisations can apply for grants to support activities such as offering placements, work experience, and professional accreditation programmes; developing key professional skills for roles in sectors like construction, mechanics, plumbing, electrical work, agriculture, health, and social care; boosting employability through CV workshops and interview coaching; and supporting individuals returning to work after extended absences. Registered charities and non-profit companies may apply for grants of up to £5,000, while unregistered community organisations can seek up to £2,000.
The fund is open to organisations operating within the areas served by National Grid Electricity Distribution, which includes the Midlands, South West England, and South Wales. Applications will close at 5 pm on Wednesday, 23rd April 2025. Existing Localgiving members can apply by logging into their accounts and accessing the application form via the 'My Grants' section. Non-members can apply through the Localgiving website and, if successful, will receive a complimentary annual membership. Applicants will be informed of the outcome in May, with funds distributed later that month.
