Funding Available to Help Museums & Galleries to Sustain their Collections (UK)

The John Ellerman Foundation is inviting applications for its Museums and Galleries Fund, which aims to strengthen regional museums and galleries in the UK.

A total of £520,000 of funding will be available for applications which:

  • enable new ways of working both for established curators and those just starting out
  • ensure organisations can safeguard and advance curatorial skills through a time of development or change

The Foundation expects to award five or six grants of around £90,000 for periods of two to three years, but will consider higher amounts for exceptional projects.

Applications will be accepted for a wide variety of collection types, including:

  • visual and decorative arts
  • social history and anthropology
  • science and technology
  • industrial
  • natural history

Applications from organisations with an income between £100,000 and £10 million will be given priority, but larger institutions may be funded if uniquely placed to meet the Fund’s aims.

There is a two-stage application process.

The closing date for first stage applications is the 6th January 2025.

The Foundation expects to make first-stage decisions inSpring 2025, with notifications being sent out confirming their decisions in late February. Final decisions will likely be made by the end of May 2025.
