Grant News
Tesco, in partnership with The Sun Newspaper, has launched the "Cooking for All" grant programme under its Stronger Starts initiative. The scheme aims to enhance children's access to nutritious food and equip them with essential cooking skills. A total of £150,000 is available, offering 150 grants of £1,000 each. These grants are designed to support projects that teach children up to the age of 16 about nutrition, healthy eating, and food preparation.
Cooking for All can fund 100% of project costs.
The need for this initiative is underscored by findings from the Food Foundation's 2019 report, which revealed that 86% of 11 to 18-year-olds had never prepared a meal at home or school. This lack of basic cooking skills contributes to poor dietary habits among young people. The programme seeks to address this gap and promote healthier lifestyles by funding projects that focus on food education and cooking.
Organisations that are eligible to apply include not-for-profit organisations and schools that support children and young people up to the age of 16. This encompasses nurseries, youth groups, Brownies, Guides, Scouts, voluntary and community organisations, registered charities, social enterprises, community councils, mutuals, and housing organisations. Projects can utilise the grant to purchase cooking equipment, ingredients, create educational materials, or fund gardening projects that teach children about growing and preparing healthy food.
Applications for the "Cooking for All" grant are currently open and will close at noon on Friday, 30 May 2025. Interested organisations can apply through the Tesco Stronger Starts website. The programme is managed by the community charity Groundwork UK, which oversees the application process and distribution of funds.
