£50 Million Fund for Research Collaborations to Tackle Global Challenges (UK)

The British High Commission Pretoria has announced that up to R1 billion (£50 million) of funding is being made available to support UK-South Africa science and research collaboration, including support of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory.

Over the next two years, the International Science Partnership Fund will support UK and South African researchers and innovators to co-design and co-fund multi-disciplinary projects that address priorities on climate, health and jobs.

This includes:

  • investing in solutions for non-communicable diseases
  • tackling unemployment and boosting economic growth
  • gaining a better understanding of the impacts of climate change
  • investing in South Africa's research and innovation potential
