Grants of up to £2,500 to Support Intergenerational Projects (UK)

The Woodroffe Benton Foundation has announced the opening of its latest Small Grants Programme, offering one-off grants between £500 and £2,500 to UK charitable organisations and educational institutions.

The Foundation usually makes grants in the following areas:

  • Relief of hardship due to economic or social circumstances
  • Care and accommodation for elderly or sick individuals
  • Education, particularly promoting institutions in the Derbyshire region
  • Environmental conservation or public access improvements
  • Human physical well-being, though this category is funded proactively rather than via open applications

This round prioritises intergenerational projects that bring people of different ages together to improve community cohesion, wellbeing, and mutual respect.  Grants are available to UK-registered charities, schools, or universities with at least two years of operational history and an annual income below approximately £750,000. Applicants must have a full set of accounts and demonstrate clear charitable objectives.

Examples of the type of activities that could be supported in this funding round could include:

  • Shared educational activities and workshops, such as mentoring, tutoring, or skills exchange sessions where older adults support youth learning and vice-versa.

  • Creative and cultural programmes, such as collaborative art, music, storytelling or performance projects that engage different age groups in joint creation.

  • Community building and social engagement initiatives, including group events, social groups or clubs that regularly bring younger and older people together for conversation, games, or shared interests.

  • Wellbeing and recreational activities, such as intergenerational sports, outdoor activities, gardening, or physical exercise sessions that promote health and interaction across ages.

  • Skill-sharing and mentoring programmes, where participants from one generation teach or support those from another (e.g. digital skills for older people taught by younger volunteers, or life skills/mentoring provided by older participants).

The deadline is 31 March or sooner if 150 applications are received.
