Funding Available to Tackle Major Challenges in Parkinson’s Research (UK)
Parkinson’s UK has announced that its Project Grants programme is open for applications. Parkinson’s UK is the largest member-led charitable funder of Parkinson’s research in Europe and has invested more than £130 million in research
Project grants fund projects up to a maximum of 36 months designed to answer a single, or small group, of Parkinson's research questions.
Such as projects:
- to better understand the causes of Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s like disorders (such as MSA and PSP).
- to investigate the potential links between Parkinson’s and other conditions, like diabetes.
- to discover new drugs or investigate biomarkers.
- that involve cohort studies or pilot clinical trials.
- Projects can run for up to 36 months and grants are usually worth up to £400,000, with an average award of around £260,000.
Key points:
- UK universities, research institutes, NHS Trusts and statutory social care organisations can apply.
- Co-applicants and collaborators may be based overseas or within pharmaceutical or biotech companies.
- Applicants must involve people with lived experience of Parkinson’s throughout the research process.
- Applications from all sections of the community, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, or religion are encouraged.
Applications follow a two-stage process. Preproposals are now open and close at 4pm on 7 January 2027. Shortlisted applicants must submit full applications by 4pm on 8 April 2027.
