Funding Available to Involve More People in Tackling Climate Change (UK)

The UK's National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) has £20 million in funding for community-led projects to inspire more people to take climate action.

The funding is being made available through the Climate Action Fund - Our Shared Future, to support projects that reach more people by either:

  • linking climate action to the everyday lives and interests of local communities
  • influencing communities at a regional or national level

To be eligible, applications need to be submitted by partnerships consisting of a mix of organisations and sectors, and smaller groups working at a local level. This includes:

  • voluntary and community organisations
  • registered charities
  • charitable incorporated organisations
  • not-for-profit organisations
  • community interest companies
  • schools, colleges, universities (as long as the project benefits and involves the wider local communities)
  • public sector organisations
  • co-operative societies

The minimum grant is £500,000, however, it is expected that most projects will receive funding of between £1 million and £1.5 million over 3 to 5 years.

A small number of larger or longer projects may be funded.

It is anticipated that up to 25 projects will be funded.

Organisations can apply at any time until at least the end of 2024. The fund is expected to close to applications in early 2025.
