Grant News
The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) is offering funding through its Power and Accountability programme. The grant supports efforts to strengthen democratic accountability and to challenge the concentration of power in the UK.
This funding is available to individuals, charities and not-for-profit organisations, including those without charitable status. Applicants must show a commitment to JRCT’s values and demonstrate how their work aligns with the programme’s aims. Grants can fund operational or project costs, including salaries and overheads.
There is no fixed upper limit to the amount applicants can request, though JRCT advises applying only for what is needed. Priority will be given to work that
- addresses corporate power,
- strengthens democratic processes,
- or promotes responsible media.
The fund is particularly interested in long-term work and initiatives led by marginalised groups.
The fund is currently open. The next deadline for applications is 10am on 1 September 2025. Applications must be submitted through the Trust’s online application system, available via the JRCT website.
Applicants need to register for an account to submit a funding application. The deadline to register for an account for this funding round is 18 August 2025.
The grant responds to concerns about growing imbalances of power and the impact this has on democracy and civil society participation.
