Support for Museum Partnerships and Innovation (Scotland)

Museums Galleries Scotland has launched the Pathfinder Pilot Fund to support collaborative projects that test new ways of working across Scotland’s museum sector. The fund forms part of the Museum Futures programme and aims to develop ideas that could be scaled up or adopted elsewhere. Museums Galleries Scotland is the national development body for Scotland’s museums and galleries.

Grants of up to £350,000 are available for projects lasting up to three years. Smaller grants can also support preparatory work, research and the early development of collaborations. Projects could:

  • address skills or expertise gaps;
  • test shared services or resources;
  • develop new income streams;
  • tackle local challenges collaboratively;
  • create partnerships with organisations outside the museum sector.

Key highlights: projects must be museum-led and delivered through a partnership. The lead applicant is expected to be a museum, accredited or non-accredited, or a formally constituted group of museums. Participating museums must complete an Organisational Health Checker and applicants must meet Fair Work First requirements.

Organisations should first submit an Expression of Interest and discuss their idea with the Museum Futures team. Applications are invitation-only once a proposal has been sufficiently developed and agreed as a suitable fit for the fund.
